was passed. Temperature was 99.4?F. but the pulse had risen to 102 though still of good volume. He vomited a small quantity of bilious matter. A differential leucocytic count showed 89 per cent polymorphonuclears. A provisional diagnosis of " obstruction with commencing peritonitis" was made and laparotomy decided on. At 9-30 a.m. when the patient arrived on the table his general condition was good, with a temperature of 99.2?F. and a good volume pulse of 132 per minute.
